Tzatziki

It is difficult to ascertain the origin of this food. According to one theory, tzatziki originated in India, where a very similar dish still exists. It arrived in Greece, via trade routes across Persia. Even the name of the food comes from the Persian word zhazha, which means herb mixture.

Enjoy this delicious and refreshing Tzatziki as a dip, sauce or spread on your favorite dish!

Ingredients:

  • 1 large cucumber, peeled and grated
  • 2 cups Greek yogurt
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh dill
  • 1 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Start by grating the cucumber and then place it in a fine mesh sieve to remove excess water. Let it sit for at least 10 minutes.
  2. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, minced garlic, chopped fresh dill, extra-virgin olive oil, and fresh lemon juice.
  3. Add the grated cucumber to the mixture and mix well.
  4. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least an hour before serving.
